Differentiated, Real-World Learning

At Horizon Outschool Academy, students learn together through shared projects, investigations, field experiences, discussions, and community-based learning. Because students develop at different rates and arrive with different backgrounds and abilities, instruction is individualized to meet each student where they are academically.

Students often participate in the same learning experience while working toward different learning objectives and levels of mastery.

Academic expectations, assignments, questioning, and assessment are adjusted according to each student's age, readiness, and demonstrated skill level. This allows younger students to build foundational skills while older students engage with increasingly complex concepts, analysis, and applications.

Rather than separating students entirely by grade level, Horizon utilizes a multi-age learning model that encourages mentorship, collaboration, leadership, and individualized growth. Students are challenged appropriately while remaining part of a cohesive learning community.
